Welcome to Year 6!

We have had a fantastic start to the school year, and the children have settled into their new routines exceptionally well. They have quickly embraced the expectations of Year 6 and are showing maturity, responsibility and enthusiasm in all areas of school life.

A key focus for our class has been understanding that hard work, perseverance and a positive attitude are the foundations of success. It has been wonderful to see the children demonstrating resilience when faced with challenges, supporting one another and taking pride in their learning. They have approached lessons with enthusiasm and are beginning to recognise that progress comes through effort, practice and determination.

Across the curriculum, the children have already produced some excellent work and have shown a real eagerness to learn. We are incredibly proud of how positively they have started the year and look forward to seeing their confidence, independence and achievements continue to grow over the coming months. We have an exciting year ahead, filled with new opportunities, challenges and memorable experiences.

We have made a fantastic start to the year and have already explored a range of exciting topics across the curriculum. In English, we have been reading When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle, using the text to develop our reading skills and deepen our understanding of characters, themes and vocabulary. Alongside this, we have had a strong focus on grammar and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) to help improve the quality of our writing.

In Maths, we have been learning about place value and developing our understanding of numbers up to millions. We have also placed a significant emphasis on arithmetic and times tables, building fluency and confidence with key calculation skills.

In History, we have been investigating the fascinating question, What happened in 1066?, exploring the events that led to the Battle of Hastings and how they changed the course of British history.

Looking ahead, we are excited to begin our Science learning about fossils, where we will discover how they are formed and what they can teach us about life on Earth millions of years ago. We are proud of the effort and enthusiasm the children have shown and look forward to another busy and successful term.
