Art

We are all artists

At St Michael’s Academy, the art curriculum aims to inspire creativity. The programme of study is designed to give children a wide-ranging knowledge of art and its history as well as equipping them with the tools they need to create their own art – with strong emphasis being placed on making concept a physical reality.

In the autumn term the main focus aims at introducing and refreshing all the children with both basic and more complex skills of producing art for example, drawing, painting, sculpting and designing. For the remainder of the year, the children are taken through the history and development of art, learning about many prolific artists and art movements. Using their knowledge to learn art techniques and to inspire their own original pieces of work

Examples of Art at St Michael's

Painting

In Autumn B, all classes studied the medium paint. Through exploring the work of different artists, children were able to evaluate and replicate the work of the artist. The final pieces, which the children created, were brilliant and showed their improvements in areas such as colour mixing and brush control. We are excited to be showcasing some of these fantastic pieces around school!

Printing

In Spring A, all classes studied the medium of print. Looking at a variety of different artists, children were able to evaluate and replicate the work, creating their own versions. Once again, the children created excellent final pieces which highlighted the skills they gained in this medium.
