Autumn 1

The children of Blackman Class have had an amazing past 8 weeks!

To start off the term we had a week celebrating our class author Malorie Blackman. We read the book Ellie and the Cat and created our own cats and portraits of Malorie.

The next week we celebrated our PRIDE value Positivity. We talked about being positive and being kind and explored different stories surrounding these values. We also had a great visit from Pete the Poet who allowed us to express ourselves through dressing up, dancing and rap.

After PRIDE week we started looking at the book Stuck in which a boy threw multiple items into a tree to try to get his kite unstuck. The children made their very own stories based on this book and tried to knock their chosen objects down.

The children also started learning about the Romans, an exciting topic where they learnt about the Roman army.

The children learnt about Roman numerals, Latin, Roman roads and buildings, and their favourite topic of all, Roman toilets! Their favourite fact being that the Romans cleaned their bottoms with a sponge on a stick!

The children then used their knowledge of the Romans to create a non-fiction report on the Roman Army.

In our mathematics lessons, the children have been looking at place value and addition and subtraction. The children have done some fabulous work using column method to add and subtract numbers.

Within Science the children have been learning about the digestive system and have done some great experiments using bread and coca cola to see what food looks like in the stomach.
